Tuesday Trivia with Matt - Episode 221

To be honest, I always get nervous when changing the day of our show from Tuesday to Monday… but y’all never let me down! In fact, we had more teams in week two of the Fall Trivia League than we had at the premiere! A warm welcome to these teams who joined this week: Elevated, Hot Ass Soup, and We’re Just Guessing! That brings our Season 3 team total to 17!

This week we celebrated International Sign Languages day by testing your ASL alphabet… and a big thumbs up to many teams that aced round one! We also recognized some flags and famous people from Central and South America for Hispanic Heritage Month… and we learned the term “proprietary eponym” as we celebrated products that have genericizied trademarked names, like Jacuzzi, Crock-Pot, and Polaroid. Did you know that “Escalator” is a proprietary eponym?!? That was new knowledge for me!

We also paid tribute to some recognizable bass lines from songs throughout pop music history. Thanks to Emery from Jeremy Bearimy for the great round theme suggestion! I’d like to also recognize one of the YouTube creators and musicians that eased the preparation of that round. Check out the full video from Miro Jankura below!

Before we get to our winners of this week’s episode, let’s present week two’s winner of “The Alex Award” for the funniest/best/worst wrong answer of the game, as selected by my scorekeeper and husband Alex. It came in round four where we celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month with some famous celebrities with ancestry from countries whose primary language is Spanish. The first was “Queen of Salsa” Celia Cruz who is from Cuba. Three Halves of a Whole Idiot was unsure of Celia’s heritage, so they decided to make a guess hoping for some luck based on its tie-in to a team member’s name. Their answer was, and I quote, “Bolivia (because of Olivia)”. Nice try, Three Halves of a Whole Idiot! We see what you did there, and it was worth a shot! Congrats on winning “The Alex Award” for week two! 🤣

Additional celebrations go to the Crafty Tiger Bitches for being our winners of the random wheel spin this week. That earns them an extra entry into the end-of-season prizes! ☸️

Corrections: There were a few small corrections I made after Alex’s live scoring. One example (that made me giggle) was from We’re Just Guessing who in the music round listed the artist of the song “Stand By Me” as Benny King instead of Ben E King, which I totally see as an acceptable answer! If a team member verbally tells the answer-inputter the name “Ben E King” it sure does sound like Benny. And I awarded the points for it because it proves they actually knew the real answer and didn’t Google or cheat. Ha! No one is Googling “Stand By Me” and getting the answer Benny King.

If ever you feel like I should have accepted a different answer than I announce live on the show, or if you feel there is an error in the scoring for your team, feel free to email me afterwards!

Below you will find both the weekly scoreboard with all teams’ round scores and leaderboard through the first two weeks of competition. Scores in pink show which round that team chose to use their Double Down.

🥇Congratulations to Jeremy Bearimy for four perfect rounds this week, earning them the top spot!
🥈Just a few points back in second place is Central Adams! Great job!
🥉And rounding out the podium in third place, Petty! Petti! Pette!

We are back on Tuesday next week for Episode 222! And if you’re reading this and haven’t joined the Fall Trivia League yet, it is not too late to join in the fun! There are still eight weeks to log seven scores and be in the running for the BIG PRIZES!
