Tuesday Trivia with Matt - Episode 168
Thank you to everyone who joined us for the first episode of SEASON TWO of the Tuesday Trivia with Matt Fall Trivia League! I was so excited to see 13 teams join us for the start of the season. Many of these teams are TTWM mainstays, but a few joined us for the first time or the first time in a while. I welcome all of you, and hope you enjoyed the season kickoff!
This week’s episode featured several round themes that were suggested by TTWM players over the past weeks. We had a round of college mascots (which many of you went 10 for 10 on!), a round about road sign shapes and colors, and a Jeopardy Potpourri round featuring five different round theme suggestions.
I love a good music cover round, and this week was a favorite: Cover Banda, featuring covers of songs performed by banda, cumbia, and mariachi bands. Alex was particularly amused by some of the covers and so after the show we looked some of them up on YouTube. I HAD to share this YouTube video with you… because if you thought the audio clip of the Kings of Leon “Sex on Fire” cover was great… just wait until you see the video:
Additionally, we had a round to honor the champions of the FIRST season of the TTWM Fall League: team Just Neighbors (formerly known as Brochuters +1). This round featured images of famous neighbor characters that appeared in sitcoms over the past several decades.
This brings me to my first shout out of the season, and that goes to my husband Alex. He does such an incredible job live scoring for all of our episodes of TTWM, and honestly I could not run this business or host this show without him.
To demonstrate just how amazing he is (and why I need him to live score instead of using a “question/answer” form that automatically checks answers)… this week one of the neighbors featured in the TV round was Steve Urkel from Family Matters. All 13 teams got this answer correct, but we had EIGHT DIFFERENT SPELLINGS of the characters name:
Erkel
Irkle
Stephen Urkel
Steve Erkle
Steve Urkel
Steve Urkle

Alex really is the unsung hero of this whole operation. He’s got my back… and as demonstrated above he had all of your backs by ensuring you got your point for the correct answer!💜
Alex also gets his moment to shine during the Fall League because each week he gets to pick the recipient of “The Alex Award”. This award is for what Alex deems to be his favorite funniest/worst wrong answer of the week. It can be won in a variety of different ways. Maybe you are completely off… maybe you made him chuckle… or maybe you were so close but still so far away. This week’s winner falls into the latter of those categories. During the banda cover music round, I played a cover of “The Sign” by Ace of Base. This team put the title “I Saw the Sun”, which made Alex laugh, thinking of that title with the line that comes after it: “I saw the sun… and it opened up my eyes”. 🤣 We both giggled thinking of that clip of President 45 looking up at the sun with his bare eyes during the eclipse. So for that answer, our week one winner of “The Alex Award” is team Central Adams! 🌞
Further congratulations are in order to THREE teams who earned bonus prize wheel spins on our end-of-season prize wheel:
☸️ First, Campbell Soup won the weekly wheel spin, earning them an extra prize spin
☸️ Also The Re-Trivia-ers were closest on the tie-breaker question that Alex wrote when we didn’t need one (and I forgot to tell him! ha!), so instead of the question going to waste we decided to still ask it and give a prize wheel spin to the closest guess
☸️ Finally, team Jeremy Bearimy wins a spin because they correctly prognosticated their placement on this week’s scoreboard! On a Instagram and Facebook post before the game, I asked players to predict where they would land on the first week’s scoreboard and if they were correct they would get an extra prize spin. Jeremy Bearimy guessed 8th and they were right on! Woo hoo!
Below you will find both the weekly scoreboard with all teams’ round scores and total scores for the night. Scores in pink show which round that team chose to use their Double Down. After reviewing Alex’s live scoring, two minor adjustments were made that gave two teams one more point each, but didn’t impact the ranking of the week.
🥇Congratulations to The Re-Trivia-ers for being the top scorers of the night, and our first weekly winner!
🥈2nd place went to last year’s champs, Just Neighbors
🥉Making the podium in 3rd place was High School Musical The Musical The Series The Team Name
The season leaderboard will be updated each week, and once any team has played more than seven shows, their lowest scores will start to drop!
The 13 teams below have a solid start in the fall league, but it is not too late to join in the fun! There are still nine weeks to log seven scores and be in the running for the BIG PRIZES! Join us, Tuesdays on Zoom at bit.ly/ttwmzoom23!
